This blog is written by Greg Jeffers a very libertarian, investment CEO concerning the American energy crisis and their politics. He claims that this blog is for those who are willing to question everything and if you have a bias to believe everything in the mainstream media that you should not read this blog. He is definitely opinionated and it should be interesting to see peoples' comments with different views than Greg.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I don't think that this blog actually does much. He gets much too intense with his beliefs that instead of persuading people with rational arguments, we see people either simply agreeing or getting really irritated with his blog. When someone comments on his blogs disagreeing with him, he comes back with a response defending his argument once again - but not in a sensible way - more in an "I'm right, and you're wrong" way. I don't feel that this is the most effective way to make a change and alter readers views to match your beliefs.
I am focusing on option 1:
ReplyDeleteIt is quite intriguing that the Greg's blog has the visual aspects that it does. When viewed immediately there is no sense of who he is, except that he gets right down to business. There is little interest on his page besides the words he has written, which are easily viewed due to the color choice of the background. Clearly he wants people to only focus on his posts and and the evidence in them as opposed to anything else, which is absolutely wonderful. This is one of the few blogs that does not want any focus on anything but their argument, which is refreshing and welcomed by myself. I enjoyed this blog and Greg's postings, they were funny and you could tell that what he was writing about he truly cared about but also got to the point. However sometimes his posts would ramble. The main thing that needs to be said about this blog is if you don't agree with him, don't read it.
I am responding to the post "Fighting the Last War". It seems to be about the struggle during the last election between the republicans and democrats. Personally, I felt like this blog didn't really go anywhere. It stated obvious facts, but did not initiate any further thought. It did not provide any thought-provoking revelations or questions. It simply stated what had happened the day prior during elections. I felt like this post should have, and could have been much more informative.

ReplyDeleteThe blog does not do much for me. It is not very original, using Blogger as a template. So it isn't very visually stimulating. Also, the comments seem as if they are friends having a pointless conversation. Nothing is backed up and the support their claims with the same claims. I don't think the blog affects the readers very much, only making them annoyed with the issues.
I read the “Thank You, Veterans” Post and its comments and found it all to be interesting. The author of the post gave his sincere thanks to U.S. Veteran’s which I thought was nice, but then he used his post as a chance to take a jab at the ‘American Body Politic’, claiming special interests use the sacrifice that veteran’s make to promote their own ideals. I feel like that makes the author guilty of the exact same thing. Eight people commented on the post, many of which were veterans. One veteran said he was tired of “all this ‘thank you’ BS”, stating his three years of service was a waste of time and money. He thought defense spending could be better used on social programs. Another veteran then commented and stated only those who served in combats should be considered veterans, making him not really a veteran. Then for some reason he decided to take a shot a liberals for ‘pushing for the new American police force.’ The author then jumped in and tried to prevent any more arguments.
ReplyDeleteOverall it didn’t seem like much of a discussion was going on. Everyone appeared to be arguing without even talking about the same thing. This blog is weird and confusing.
In response to option 4, I decided to talk about "Social Security De Facto Default!" I found that the blog doesn't even say what experience the author has. He definitely has a lot of enthusiasm, and I admit I laughed when he said that you need to have sex to exercise your prostate. I think he makes some valid points especially in how he thinks that the retirement age should be raised again. The enthusiasm I mentioned before really helps his ethos, but I feel as if he needs more logos to help sell his story.

ReplyDeleteThe first thing I noticed when the blog first loaded is that this is a completely default template being used for the blog. While the template does look nice it gives me the impression that the author does not take this blog exremely seriously or has not spent a good amount of time designing the blog and trying to make it visually appealing. While the blog does not feature any distracting advertisements or obtrusive images, it feels kind of boring. I feel that is the author would spend a little more time designing the visual aspects of the blog, he may be able to draw more attention to the site. As it stands right now, it is just too standard and nothing special to really draw my interest from the design aspect.
As I read through this blog, I got the impression that it was an unprofessional college student ranting. As it has been fore-mentioned, the template for the website is very basic, and Greg says things like "Let them eat S!#!" and "I got a better shot at getting pregnant." Obviously, people are going to see this and not take his opinion seriously. Unless your Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, you can't get away with saying things like that and still have respect. The various articles all had responses and comments that just seemed to create arguments. This seems like a blog that you should only read if you completely agree with everything he says, otherwise Greg just comes across as an, in his own words, @$$hole.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of the people who have already commented that his blog is very bland and boring. Visually you gain nothing from the very dull colors. The only good thing is that he has pictures in the blogs. Seems rather extreme and his views may be questioned often. However, in the comments it seems that everyone who reads his blog agrees with what he has to say. To the average reader I do not believe that many people would be effected by this blog after reading it.

ReplyDeleteThis blog has some interesting aspects to it. It is extraordinarily sarcastic, much more so than people actually enjoy reading. It is very opinionated and is fairly extreme, calling just the government and just about anyone associated with them scum. The way it is written sounds a bit like a high school student is the author. I don't think it accomplishes its goal, aside from people that already have those ideals. The writing style is a major turnoff, and while the author claims to question everything, he is in fact just bashing anything that doesn't suit his liking without really offering a good way to fix it.
About the post "Peak Oil", I truly think that the writer's tone is kind of radical. However, he provided numerous examples to present his view, and use of accurate data can also helps him interpret clearly. From my point of view, when a number of questions or continually appear in one article, which may shows how strong mood the writer has. If the audience has same feeling as the author, he or she may strongly agree with it and love this post, but others might reject to read this writing, rather than being patient to listen your idea. All in all, as a public writing, I am not very enjoy about this post in his particular style.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, this blog does not contain a great amount to intellectual information. It looks more like a Comedy Central version of a blog show where the news are "reported" (not created originally) in a sarcastic manner that is most likely intended to entertain instead of educate the readers. Even though it might not be as informative as some other blogs, it is certainly very interesting to read because of its reference to modern culture, such as Digg and uses light and even vulgar language at times. I certainly enjoyed reading this blog very much.
Just by skimming some of the recent posts on the blog, I have found some grammatical errors, which gives me the first impression that this blog isn't very professional. Also, the fact that the blog uses the Google template "Blogspot" is another indicator that the author is, simply put, just an average American voicing his own opinions. Jeffers seems to show little to no effort to include the arguments of both sides in most of his posts.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I did like about the blog is the fact that it is actually a "forum for an ongoing discussion of energy and politics". If you take a look at the comments under some of his posts (that is, the ones that have more than just a few comments), it is evident that people from both sides of the political spectrum are engaging in a debate.
In conclusion, while it seems as if this blog actually does something, it isn't totally because of what Jeffers says. While there is an ongoing and active debate under several of his posts, the sarcasm that Jeffers uses to try to make his point doesn't seem to be having much of an effect. The people commenting don't seem to be moved by his words; rather, they already had their opinions going in.
In response to #7...I don't think this blog actually does too much for anyone. FIrst of all, each post seemed so long and I got bored of reading it before it was over. Second of all, once again, a blog about politics. I realize that many opinions involve politics but I don't like reading or writing about politics so writing these blog posts every week is getting old. I read the beginning of several posts and they seem very opinionated, which is what a blog is but his blogs give barely any facts at all. Many of the comments seem to come from the same people and it usually turns into arguments between commenters. Blogs are about opinions but I think they should also inform people about things. I don't think this specific blog does much of that.
